Janet Beaman, a native Rochesterian, is an enchanting vocalist who brings
her own unique approach and style to the classic tradition of Jazz singing.
She is able to touch the audience with only a few magical notes, and her
performance leaves an impression that is not soon forgotten. Her repertoire
includes standards, ballads, blues, latin rhythms, and her own original
songs. In addition to private instruction, Primarily from her Best Friend
and Piano Player of 14 Years, Gian Carlo Cervone, she has studied at the
Janice Borla Vocal Jazz Camp in Chicago, the Stanford University Jazz
Workshop in California with Kevin Mahogany, The Kennedy Center in DC, and
has traveled to bigger cities such as New York City and Toronto to enhance
her understanding of the art of Jazz.
Janet, is the Owner, of Janet Beaman
Music Services (formerly Beaman Enterprises), a musical company that
produces specialty Jazz events, presenting local and national acts, which
she started in 1994. She organized and hosted the Janet Beaman Vocal Club
(a monthly vocal club meet) as well as Follow Janet Beaman Tours (FJB).
Janet is also able to offer clients an excellent choice in Blues
entertainment with exclusive bookings such as The John Cole Blues Band.
She
was the featured vocalist with The Jazz Workshop and The Jazz Rescue Unit
for several years. Her singing has been featured on WXXI-AM 1370 (City
Sounds) and has been regularly played on WGMC-FM 90.1/105.1. She has also
been a guest performer for WGMC's Meet The Artist (MTA) on several
occasions, including a performance with Wycliffe Gordon. She has appeared
in About Time Magazine, Scene Magazine, City Newspaper, The Weekend and
Business sections of the D&C, and on RCTV15.
Janet has performed in
practically every Jazz venue in Rochester since 1992 including: Shep's
Paradise, Harry's Bar & Grill, The Daisy Flour Mill, The Little Theatre,
Pomodoro's, Latta Grill, Le' Jazz Hot, The Montage Grill, The Clarissa
Room, and other venues in Rochester, Buffalo, Syaracuse and Lancaster
(Lancaster Opera House - Ladies In Jazz Concert). She has also done many
festival type events including The Clarissa Street Reunion, WBLK Blowout in
Buffalo, The New York State Fair in Syracuse and others.
Her first CD
"Janet Beaman, Level I - Still A Little Shy"was released March 19, 1998.
Her second CD "Janet Beaman & Te´ Naj, Level II - When I
Look", was
released February 22, 2001. Both CD's were Beaman Enterprises Productions.

Janet has a variety of influences
including Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Mel Tormé, Duke Ellington,
Lester Young, Art Pepper, and many of the other early greats. But, she has
also been influenced by other new artists such as Diane Schuur, Rochelle
Farrelle, Maysa, Kevin Mahogany, and Vanessa Rubin.
Janet performs for all types of events. She is repeatedly hired year after
year by private organizations and companies, but is also just as happy to
do your family reunion! |
